Employment Opportunities at PEEC
Interns and instructors play a vital role in the daily operations of PEEC. Our success is intricately connected with the endeavors of our staff in education, public relations, program development, and managing facilities. Instructors and Interns lead activity sessions covering a wide range of topics. See a full list of our program offerings in our program planning packet.
We accept applications for Intern and Instructor positions on a rolling basis. Generally, we begin the interview process in November for a February start date and begin again in March for a May start date. We do occasionally hire between these times if program demand is high.
Positions Available
- Environmental Education Instructor - Minimum Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Environmental Education Intern - At least two years of college courses in related field completed
- Summer Camp Intern - At least one year of college cources in related field completed. Live off campus.
- Summer Camp Volunteer - At least 15 years of age with interest and some related experience.
Occasionally, we experience turnover in our longer term positions, including our Staff Naturalist and mid-management positions.When this occurs, openings will be listed on this page.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR
PEEC currently has instructional staff openings for the 2012 season. PEEC Instructors will offer lessons and activities addressing a wide range of topics relating to natural history and ecology, environmental issues, outdoor living skills, teamwork and communication. Group participants range from pre-school children to adults.
PEEC Instructor positions are typically three to ten month appointments, with the possibility of renewal for the following year. The 2012 season will start in February and most contracts will run through mid-November. We also welcome applications from those wishing to start in April or May and work through August. Most instructors will work with our nature-themed day camp from mid-June to mid-August. Job responsibilities will include the following:
- Plan and deliver environmental education programs
- Develop program activities & lessons facilitated at the center
- Assist with facility upkeep and receptionist duties
Qualifications for Instructor positions include a college degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Education, or related discipline, experience teaching and/or working with groups, ability to work independently and as a team player, a positive and progressive mindset, and an orientation towards working to complete tasks with quality. Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, and/or Life guarding are desirable. All hires must submit to Criminal Background checks, including fingerprinting & child abuse clearances.
Salary: $225 per week, plus room and board.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INTERN
PEEC internships provide an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain first-hand experience in the day-to-day operations of a residential environmental education center. PEEC Interns will handle similar responsibilities to our instructors, with the addition of special internship trainings and projects. Responsibilities will include offering lessons and activities addressing a wide range of topics relating to natural history and ecology, environmental issues, outdoor living skills, teamwork and communication. Group participants range from pre-school children to adults.
Internships are normally 3 to 4 months, but can be 2 to 10 months. Responsibilities will include:
- Plan and deliver environmental education programs
- Develop program activities & lessons facilitated at the center
- Facility upkeep and receptionist activities
PEEC internships are often used to complement a college degree program in Environmental Studies or related discipline, and can be arranged in partnership with a college or university to provide academic credit. Our strongest intern applicants are enrolled in, or have recently completed, coursework in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Education, or related disciplines. Experience teaching and/or working with groups is preferred and we look for an ability to work independently and as a team player, a positive and progressive mindset, and an orientation towards working to complete tasks with quality. Internships stipend: $150 per week plus room and board.

PEEC SUMMER CAMP VOLUNTEER
Description: Day Camp Volunteers are responsible for the care of those children enrolled in the program. PEEC's counselors provide leadership in program activities, are an appropriate role model, and assist the Camp Coordinators the Camp Manager in all aspects of the program. They are crucial in adding energy and enthusiasm to the program; while meeting the daily needs of children.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide opportunities for each child to experience a successful program
- Enthusiastically participate in all program activities with children
- Actively promote an environment that is safe and fun for all the children in the program
- Assist with snacks, meals, set-up and clean-up of each days program
- Assist children and the Camp Director with arrival and departure procedures
Qualifications:
- Must be 15 years of age or older
- Strong interest & enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing nature and the environment with children
- Ability to present a professional appearance, punctuality, demonstrated responsibility
- Ability to work with children ages 3 – 12
- Previous experience with summer camps is preferred
- First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certifications a plus

Training: June 14th - 19th
Camp: June 21st - August 20th
