BIRDING

CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
Sunday, January 1, 2012 | 8am start

Cost: $5 for Audubon (pay after the count)
It's time for the National Audubon Society's 112th annual Christmas Bird Count! Families, students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars and bird guides, brave the cold weather to participate in this extraordinary measure of conservation. Help us search and identify birds in our area. If you are a beginner, we will match you with a more experienced participant. Please call for details if you are interested.

Eagle Watch I

Join us as we take a trip north in search of eagles. We will make a stop at the Eagle Institute and look for eagles soaring, feeding and nest guarding. Bring a lunch and dress in warm layers. Call by January 21 to reserve a seat in the van.

Birds of Prey Migration

Nature & Wildlife Photography Weekend

Join Len Rue, a widely published wildlife photographer, as he presents a wealth of information on the basics of photography as well as tips on photographing close-ups of flowers, insects, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals. This workshop includes informational sessions and field trips to practice photography skills.

Spring Photography Weekend
May 18–20, 2012

Capture the beautiful spring colors w/ photographer John Barclay. Learn about exposure, composition, depth of field, quality of light & infrared capture. Geared towards DSLR type cameras. A tripod is recommended, but not required.

Introduction to Macro Photography

Macro photography captures the intimate details of the natural world. This is a beginner level class that teaches the basics of up-close photography. John Jose, from Otter Creek Environmental Services, will lead this exciting class.

Take a hike in the woods. This 1 ¼ mile trail passes a vernal pool that is important for breeding amphibians and then descends into a mature hardwood ravine. Look at fossils along the way. Moderate-strenuous with a final, steep climb.

Introduction to Fishing

North American Orienteering Championship (NAOC)
October 18–21, 2012

PEEC is proud to host this 2012 orienteering championship event! As with recent NAOCs, it will include middle, sprint, and long races. They will also debut another event—a fourth race that will emphasize sporting spectacle. After the last individual race on Sunday, participants will gather to watch as the top orienteering athletes in North America race head–to–head in an open relay competition. Introduction to Snowshoeing

Learn the basics of using snow shoes. No experience necessary – we provide the equipment and teach you everything you need to know. If there is not enough snow, join us for a free hike. Register early to guarantee a spot!

Winter Survival Hike

Enjoy a hike that teaches survival skills as you journey through the fields and forests. Build a shelter, try your hand at fire making, and learn other useful skills for the wintertime.

Hibernation Hike

Sugar Shack Scramble

Drum Making Workshop

Master drummer, Maxwell Kofi Donkor, will lead you through the steps of making your own drum, from selecting the materials to heading the shells. Create your own drum and bring it to a Moonlit Drumming program in the summer!
